Directions, Housing and Parking Information for MNF users

SSEL, MNF, and NNIN are part of the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Building (EECS), which is located on the North Campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Our address is 1301 Beal Avenue, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48109.



DRIVING DIRECTIONS

To reach the EECS building from Detroit Metro Airport (East):

  • Take highway I-94 West to exit 180 (18.5 mi), then -
  • Highway US-23 North to exit 41 (5.8 mi), Plymouth Road, then -
  • Plymouth Rd. West to Murfin Road (1.7 mi), turn left on -
  • Murfin Rd. to public parking lot (0.6 mi) at the Pierpont Commons (which is on the corner of Murfin and Bonisteel Blvd).
  • The EECS building is on the far side of the bell tower.

Coming from South of Ann Arbor:

  • Merge onto I-75 N toward DETROIT
  • Merge onto I-475 W via exit number 204- on the left- toward US-23/ SYLVANIA/ ANN ARBOR
  • Merge onto US-23 N via exit number 14 toward SYLVANIA/ ANN ARBOR
  • Take the GEDDES RD exit- exit number 39
  • Turn LEFT onto GEDDES RD
  • Stay straight to go onto FULLER RD
  • Turn RIGHT onto BEAL AVE
  • Turn RIGHT onto BEAL AVE

Coming from West of Ann Arbor:

  • Take I-94 E - toward ANN ARBOR
  • Take the M-14 exit- exit number 171- on the left toward PLYMOUTH
  • Merge onto MI-14 E
  • Take the BARTON DR exit- exit number 4
  • Turn LEFT onto BARTON DR
  • Turn LEFT onto PLYMOUTH RD
  • Turn RIGHT onto MURFIN AVE
  • Turn LEFT onto HAYWARD
  • Turn RIGHT onto BEAL AVE

Coming from North of Ann Arbor:

  • Take I-96 E toward DETROIT
  • Merge onto US-23 S via exit number 148A toward ANN ARBOR
  • Take the PLYMOUTH RD exit- exit number 41
  • Turn RIGHT onto PLYMOUTH RD
  • Turn LEFT onto HURON PKWY
  • Turn RIGHT onto HUBBARD ST
  • Turn LEFT onto HAYWARD
  • Turn LEFT onto BEAL AVE

HOTELS IN ANN ARBOR NEAR MNF

These are all located near North campus and have the easiest access to the MNF. Please ask for the U of M rate to get a discount on the room at all three of these locations. Rates change depending on dates but the cheapest is usually Microtel, then Holiday inn, and then Hawthorne. Hawthorne has extended stay rates and there are suites set up like an apartment. Microtel is very basic and small rooms. They all have wireless access and shuttles are available from the hotels to North Campus.

PARKING AND PERMITS

Parking in Ann Arbor is notoriously hard to find! But the University's Parking Services department is glad to help!

Requesting Parking Permits:
Parking permits cost $9 per day and you are able to park closer to the building than the meter lot (see P1-4 on map2). To obtain a parking permit in advance, send your request no later then 10 days prior to your visit to either Deb Swartz (dswartz@eecs.umich.edu) 734-936-2964 or Gary Huskey (huskey@umich.edu) 734-647-9230. Please include the days for which you will need the permit and the address you would like us to mail the permit to.

Paying for Your Parking Permit:
Once you arrive at the University you will need to go see Laura Jarels (734-764-3345 llgriff@eecs.umich.edu) in room 2308 or Gary Huskey (734-647-9230 huskey@umich.edu) in room 1246 to pay for your permit. We can only accept check or cash with check being the best option. We will give you a receipt in case you need it for your company records. Please remember the cost is $9 a day no matter weekday or weekend.

Walking Directions to EECS Building:
Lot P1 - Walk in the door labeled West Entrance GG Brown Bldg. Once inside the door take a slight left then a slight right and stay straight. The hallway will end going straight and turn left. You will then take the next right and go through a door. One through the door continue straight until you see the stairwell. You will go to the first floor. Now you are in the EECS building. You will need to find the room for whomever you are to see before going to the lab.

Lot P2 - You will need to take a right out of the parking lot and follow the sidewalk until you come to the next parking lot on your right. Once there you will need to follow the instruction above.

Lot P3 - You can take either the sidewalk by the parking lot entrance or the one on the opposite side of the building. Once you are on the sidewalk you will need to go to the four way stop and cross over to the building with the parking lot next to it. Once you are by the parking lot please continue over to the far end of the parking lot and look for the entrance labeled West Entrance and follow the rest of the direction from lot P1.

Lot P4 - Walk on Bonisteel Ave towards the west around the Cooley Building. Then turn right down a few steps towards the fountain. Go up a few steps on the left, then enter the building on the right (Lay Automotive bldg). Go straight to the end of the corridor and you have reached the EECS building.

Meter Lot - You will follow the street along Hayward to the four way stop between Beal and Hayward. You will cross the street staying straight. Once by the parking lot, look for the West Entrance into the building and follow instructions from Lot P1.
